Fall construction on Marystown Road begins in September!
Project Overview
Marystown Road serves as a vital north-south connector between Downtown Shakopee, US Highway 169, new development, retail, community parks, existing trail systems, and Jackson Township. The City of Shakopee is planning for improvements to Marystown Road and Adams Street between 17th Avenue and 12th Avenue at US Highway 169. This region continues to see development and growth, and reconstruction will improve traffic safety and operations, provide pedestrian and bicycle connectivity and plan for future growth along the corridor.
In recent years, this corridor has seen increased growth and development, and the existing roadway and intersection designs are in need of safety improvements to address an increased trend in accidents. The project will include reconstruction of Marystown Road into a two-lane divided roadway with single lane roundabouts at Vierling Drive, the US Highway 169 North ramp and the US Highway 169 South ramp intersections. Pedestrian trails will be added to fill existing gaps, including modifications to the existing bridge deck to improve pedestrian mobility. Construction is expected to begin in 2025 and will be completed in 2026. The project goals include implementing a design that balances:
- Safety improvements and crash reduction
- Connections for people walking and biking
- Roadway capacity
- Business access
- Continuity of traffic control measures
- Limiting of right-of-way needs and impacts to the environment
